MY HUSBAND AND I TOOK MY MOM ON A TRIP TO YELLOWSTONE IN THE 80'S WITH OUR WINNEBAGO. WE HAD QUITE A SNOW FALL THAT CHRISMAS AND WE COULD HARDLY GET OUT OF THAT CAMPGROUND. WE WATCHED THE BUFFALO COME UP TO OUR TRAILER. THERE WERE NOT MANY OTHERS CAMPING HERE. THE NEXT DAY WE SLID DOWN THE ROAD ON ICE TO A LOWER CAMPGROUND. I THINK MY MOM JUST STAYED IN THE TRAILER AND WE TOOK HER TO SOME RESTAURANTS. YELLOWSTONE IS A HUGE PARK AND IT IS FUN IN THE WINTER TO WATCH ALL THE STEAM FROM THE GEYSERS. THE HISTORIC LODGE IS VERY FUN PLACE FOR EVERYONE, AND HAS RESTAURANTS, VIEWING BENCHES OF OLD FAITHFUL, AND A HUGE STONE FIREPLACE.
WE VISITED MT. RUSHMORE THE PILLAR OF GRANITE WITH SCULPTURES OF OUR PRESIDENTS. YOU CAN WALK A WAYS ALONG A TRAIL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE MOUNTAIN. WE TOOK PHOTOS AND LISTENED TO THEIR MOVIE.
MY MOM LIKED CRAZY HORSE MOUNTAIN WHERE ANOTHER EUROPEAN SCULPTOR, KORZAK ZIOLKOWSKI, STARTED CARVING THE WORLD'S LARGEST SCULPTURE IN 1948 AND THEY ARE STILL WORKING ON IT. IT IS OF CRAZY HORSE, A FIERCE INDIAN SIOUX WARRIOR RIDING HORSEBACK
WITH AN ARROW AND BOW IN HIS HAND. THIS SCULPTOR HAS MANY OTHER CARVINGS OF PEOPLE ON HIS PROPERTY. HIS FAMILY CONTINUES TO HELP CARVE THIS.
