IN 1975 WHEN I MET MY FUTURE HUSBAND AT OUR JOB WITH NEW YORK STATE PARKS HE INTRODUCED ME TO HIS LARGE FAMILY. HE HAS TWO BROTHERS AND A SISTER WHO ALL HAVE MARRIED AND HAVE KIDS. THEY HAD THEIR KIDS AT A YOUNG AGE. WE ALL GATHERED AT MY HUSBAND'S GRANDMOTHER'S COTTAGE NEAR TOMS RIVER BY THE ATLANTIC OCEAN. WE HAD A GREAT TIME SWIMMING ON THE SHORE. I REMEMBER COMING BACK THERE ONCE WE HAD OUR SON ABOUT AGE 5 FOR JULY 4TH.
OUR KIDS PLAYED WITH EACH OTHER AND THAT COTTAGE HAD A NEAT FRONT PORCH WHERE YOU COULD SLEEP. IT ALSO HAD A 2ND STORY WITH THREE BEDROOMS. MY FUTURE HUSBAND TOOK ME TO SEE HIS OLD SURFBOARD. IT WAS SO HEAVY I CAN'T IMAGINE EVEN LIFTING IT LET ALONE USING IT ON THE SURF! HE HAD SPENT MANY YEARS SURFING ON THE BEACH AND WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE SURF OF THE OCEAN.
THE SHORE IS A BEAUTIFUL WHITE SANDY BEACH AND THEY HAVE A LARGE BOARDWALK. ONE PART OF THE BEACH HAS ALL KINDS OF RIDES FOR THE KIDS. THEY HAVE A HUGE JULY 4TH FIREWORKS OVER THE OCEAN. WHEN WE WENT WITH MY SON HE LOVED TO RIDE THE TRAIN AND MERRY-GO-ROUND. HE ALSO LOVES THE OCEAN AND SWIMMING AS WE BOTH DO.
