PINE MOUNTAIN LOOKOUT

I HELPED WRITE A CONTRACT TO RENOVATE PINE MOUNTAIN LOOKOUT IN THE MENDOCINO NATIONAL FOREST. THE GLASS HAD BEEN BROKEN AND THE ROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITH WOODEN SHINGLES. THERE WERE BOARDS ON THE WALLS THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HELPED A CONTRACTOR REPLACE SOME SHINGLES ON THE ROOF. THE HORSEMEN'S ASSOCIATION HELPED TO REPLACE SOME OF THE GLASS. AND THEY WERE THE GUARDIANS OF THE LOOKOUT SO THAT IT WOULD NOT GET VANDALIZED IN THE FUTURE.

THERE IS A GOOD VIEW FROM THIS LOOKOUT. IT WAS OPERATED IN 1933 - 1945 AS A WAY TO PROTECT THE LUMBER MILLS FROM FIRE. THEY REPAINTED THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE AS WELL. I GUESS IT IS A POPULAR PLACE TO RENT BY THE HORSEMEN GROUPS AS WELL AS OTHER GROUPS.
