DEER VALLEY PETROGLYPH SITE

WHILE I WORKED AT BLM I VISITED A SITE LOCATED NEARBY THAT WAS DEER VALLEY PETROGLYPH SITE. THIS 47 ACRE SITE HAD NOT BEEN PRESERVED AS A NATIONAL REGISTER SITE AT THAT TIME. SINCE THEN THEY HAVE RECORDED 1500 PETROGLYPHS ON BASALT ROCKS SINCE 1994. I DO NOT KNOW HOW OLD THEY ARE - THEY MAY BE SEVERAL HUNDRED YEARS OLD? THEY BUILT A MUSEUM BY 2000 AND IT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. IT WAS NOMINATED TO THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES. THE BLM AND ASU ARCHAEOLOGISTS ARE WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MUSEUM TO CONTINUE STUDYING THIS SITE.

MOST OF THE GLYPHS ARE RELATED TO THE HOHOKAM PEOPLE WHO INHABITED THE VALLEY OF PHOENIX.
