WHEN I VISITED MEXICO FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 1974 I WENT TO EXCAVATE A SITE FOR THE SCHOOL OF THE AMERICAS IN CUAUTLA. I HAD SOME TIME AFTER THE SCHOOL TO VIEW THE
MUSEUM IN MEXICO CITY. THEY HAVE A SUN STONE, AZTEC CALENDAR, A REPLICA OF THE MURALS IN TEOTIHUACAN, AND THE LARGEST COLLECTION OF ANCIENT MEXICAN PIECES IN THE WORLD, INCLUDING GOLD ARTIFACTS.
ON ANOTHER FLOOR THERE WERE OAXACAN AND MAYAN ARTIFACTS. ON ANOTHER FLOOR THERE ARE PRESENT DAY INDIGENOUS GROUPS REPRESENTED WITH THEIR ARTS AND CRAFTS.
I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED VIEWING THIS MUSEUM AND I THINK I WAS THERE FOR 1/2 DAY. IT HELPED ME UNDERSTAND THE VARIOUS CULTURES THROUGHOUT MEXICO, AS THEY USE ENGLISH TO DESCRIBE THE EXHIBITS. MY FIELD SCHOOL WAS ONLY IN SPANISH AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS GOING ON.
