WHEN MY BOYFRIEND AND I WERE IN GRADUATE SCHOOL IN ASU WE VACATIONED IN SEDONA AND BACKPACKED IN A BOX CANYON WITH A SHALLOW CREEK. THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE SPENT THEIR TIME IN THE FIRST MILE OF THE CREEK, BUT ONCE YOU GOT PAST THAT MILE IT WAS LIKE A WILDERNESS. WE SAW A PREHISTORIC POT IN ONE OF THE UPPER CAVES. WE HAD TO JUMP UP OVER SOME LARGE ROCKS IN ORDER TO GET THROUGH THE SECOND MILE. THEN WE CAMPED AT A PLACE ABOUT THREE OR FOUR MILES IN. THERE WAS NO ONE THERE. IT FELT JUST LIKE A WILDERNESS.
IN SEDONA THERE IS A SLIDE ROCK STATE PARK WHICH IS VERY POPULAR AND YOU CAN SWIM THERE AND SLIDE ABOUT 1/4 MILE THROUGH A NATURAL REDROCK SLIDE! IT IS VERY FUN. SEDONA USED TO BE A VERY SMALL TOWN WHEN WE WERE THERE IN THE 80'S
