TRAVELS IN MEXICO

I WENT TO MEXICO TWO TIMES AS A TEENAGER. THE FIRST TIME I TRAVELED TO MEXICO VIA A LARGE TRAIN THAT LEFT CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO AND TRAVELED THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS FOR AN ENTIRE DAY. IT PASSED THROUGH SEVERAL TUNNELS AND ACROSS MANY BRIDGES. THE CHILDREN WERE WAILING AND THEY HAD LITTLE TO EAT AND I GAVE THEM SOME CHICKEN. THE TRAIN PASSED MANY REMOTE FAMILIES LIVING IN TRAIN CARS AND THEY HAD TO PLANT SOME GARDENS TO EAT. THEY ALWAYS HAD WOMEN SERVING THE PASSENGERS TACOS, BURRITOS AND LIME DRINKS AS WE STOPPED AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS. THIS WAS A FASCINATING TRIP I WANT TO DO AGAIN SOMETIME..

MY FIRST TRIP INCLUDED A VISIT TO TEOTIHUACAN A LARGE PREHISTORIC CITY LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF MEXICO. HERE IS A PLAZA WITH MANY WORKSHOPS FOR DIFFERENT ARTISANS. I TOOK MANY PHOTOS OF THE VARIOUS ROCK SCULPTURES ON DIFFERENT BUILDINGS. I CLIMBED UP THE SUN ANS MOON PYRAMIDS AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHER BUILDINGS IN THE PLAZA.

I ALSO TRAVELED TO ACAPULCO WHICH I DID NOT REALLY CARE FOR AS IT WAS QUITE THE TOURIST TRAP. HOWEVER, THE OCEAN WATER WAS GREAT AT NIGHT AND VERY WARM. ANOTHER CITY I VISITED WAS GUANAJUATO WHERE THE MAIN ATTRACTION WAS VIEWING A MUMMY MUSEUM. IT WAS A CHARMING VILLAGE WITH WINDING STREETS.

CUERNAVACA WAS A CITY WHERE I MET A WOMAN WHO OWNED A SHOP FILLED WITH BEAUTIFUL EMBROIDERED SHIRTS AND DRESSES WHICH SHE GOT FROM TRIBES BY RIDING A MULE TO THEIR VILLAGE. THE CITY IS A POPULAR TOURIST DESTINATION.

THE THREE OF US TRAVELED TO OAXACA WHERE THERE WAS A FUN MARKET AND WHERE ALL KINDS OF VEGGIS, FISH, CHICKENS, AND OTHER BIRDS WERE SOLD, AS WELL AS TURTLE MEAT, AND PIGS. IT WAS FASCINATING TO WATCH PEOPLE BARGAIN FOR VARIOUS ITEMS. I DID TOO FOR MY HUARACHES, A HAMMOCK, AND LOTS OF EMBROIDERED CLOTHING. IT WAS ONE OF THE LARGEST MARKETS IN MEXICO. OF COURSE WE ATE FROM STREET VENDORS AND OF COURSE GOT DISENTERY. I ATE NO MOUSE MEAT AS THAT WAS COMMON DOWN THERE.

I VENTURED BY MYSELF TO TULA WHICH WAS AN ISOLATED PREHISTORIC PYRAMID WHICH WAS A PLACE WHERE THE CHILDREN SOLD CHICKLETS. I BOUGHT A NECKLACE THERE AND THE PEOPLE WERE FRIENDLY. IT WAS A SMALL CITY AND THERE WERE FEW RESTAURANTS THERE. TULA HAD VERY FEW TOURISTS.
