I LOVE TO TRAVEL TO KAWAII AND HIKE THE OLD TRAILS AROUND THE COAST AS WELL AS TO SWIM IN WARMER OCEAN. THERE ARE SOME VERY NICE BED AND BREAKFASTS THERE. IT IS ONE OF THE LEAST TOURED ISLANDS AND HAS A BEAUTIFUL KOKEE STATE PARK AT THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN WHERE THERE IS RAIN ALMOST EVERYDAY. THEREARECHICKENS ALL AROUND THIS PARK. THEY HAVE MANY GARDENS THAT ONE CAN VISIT AND MANY OF THEM HAVE ORCHIDS AS WELL AS PARROTS. THEY HAVE HAD MANY TERRIFIC HURRICANES AND THEIR TOURIST PLACES HAVE SUFFERED AS WELL. THE NATIVE SURFERS AS WELL AS THE TOURISTS LIKE TO SURF IRREGARDLESS OF THE WEATHER. IT IS AMAZING TO WATCH THEM SURF THESE GIANT 20 ' TALL WAVES. SEEMS RECKLESS TO ME. I HAVE BEEN CHURNED OVER BY SOME OF THE SMALL WAVES. SO I AM PRECOSCIOUS ABOUT SWIMMING WHEN THEIR IS A STORM OF ANY KIND.
ON THE NAPALI COAST THERE IS A NICE WILDERNESS TRAIL CALLED THE KALALAU TRAIL THAT PASSES SEVERAL HEIAUS OR SHRINE SITES. IT GOES ALONG THE 1000' SEA CLIFF AND YOU HANG ONTO A ROPE WHILE WALKING ON A LARGE METAL ROPE TO CROSS A BIG RIVER. WE BROUGHT OUR BACKPACKS THERE AND STAED OVERNIGHT. THEN AFTER IT RAINED WE HIKED UP THE TRAIL PASSING ALONGTHE WET JUNGLE AND GETTING MANY MOSQITO BITES. WE NEVER DID MAKE IT TO THEWATERFALL, AS IT WAS A VERY MUUDY TRAIL AND WE STEPPED ON MANY FROGS.
AT THE HANALEI COAST WE STAYED AT A NICE B & B. HERETHE SURF WAS PERFECT ANF MY HUSBAND BODY SURFED. THE RAINS HAD FLOODED SOME OF THE ROADS.
THERE ARE MANY NATIVE FISHERMEN WHO ENJOY CATCHING SMALL AND LARGE FISH IN THE OCEAN BY POLES AS WELL AS BY NETS. THE ISLAND HAS MANY WATER FALLS AND HAS SOME BEAUTIFUL SMELLING FLOWERS THAT THE NATIVES SELL TO TOURISTS WORLDWIDE. THEY ALSO GROW MANY PAPAYAS AS WELL AS BANANAS AS IT IS JUNGLE LIKE.
THEY HAVE A GOOD TRAIL ALONG THE SOUTHERN END OF THE ISLAND AT POIPU BEACH AND WE SWAM AND SNORKELED WITH A GIANT SEA LION WHO LIKES TO COME TO THAT SHORE.
THE FOOD IS BASICALLY LIKE THE CHINESE FOODS. THEY ALSO HAVE MANY LUAS THAT ARE EXPENSIVE. I DO NOT LIKE TARA ROOT OR POI THE NATIVE FOOD CROPS.
