THIS IS AN ISOLATED STATE PARK THAT IS LOCATED JUST SOUTH OF MT. SHASTA. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A BOAT TO GET TO THE PARK. ONCE YOU ARE IN YOUR BOAT YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY FISH DAMS AROUND THE EDGE OF THE PARK. THESE ARE BUILT OF STONES AROUND THE LAKE AND CATCH SMALL FISH DURING PREHISTORIC TIMES. THERE ARE MANY PETROGLYPHS THAT ARE ON THE ROCKS THROUGHOUT THE ISLAND. WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I CAMPED HERE THE ISLAND HAD TONS OF MOSQUITOS BUT THE VIEW OF MT. SHASTA AND MT LASSEN WAS GREAT. THE LAKE WAS VERY CLEAR AND COLD. ONLY ONE OTHER FISHER MAN WAS ON THE LAKE WHEN WE WERE THERE.
THE ISLAND IS FULL OF CUPULES, OAK TREES, AND VARIOUS SHRUBS AS WELL AS LAVA ROCKS. THESE ROCKS ARE 5000 YEARS OLD. THERE ARE ALSO OSPREY, EAGLES, AND BLUE HERONS. I'M SURE THERE ARE NATIVE AMERICANS WHO STILL FISH THERE! THEY PROBABLY ALSO USE THE FISH DAMS - WHICH ARE UNIQUE TO THIS LOCATI0N.
