IN THE 1980'S I TRAVELED TO CANCUN WITH MY HUSBAND, MY MOM, MY BROTHER, AND HIS WIFE AS WELL AS MY PARENT'S IN LAW.
IT WAS A TRIP OF A LIFETIME AS WE FLEW FROM SAN FRANCISCO TO GUADALAJARA. THEN WE GOT STALLED IN THERE AIRPORT. WE WENT ON TO CANCUN AND MET OUR RELATIVES FROM THE EAST COAST. ONCE WE GOT SETTLED IN A MOTEL WE WALKED AROUND THE TOWN TO SIGHT SEE. IT WAS QUITE HOT AND HUMID. WE WENT SNORKELING IN A NEAT CORAL REEF AND SAW SOME BEAUTIFUL FISH. WE DECIDED TO ALSO TAKE A BOAT TRIP TO THE ISLA DE MUJARAS WHERE THERE WERE MANY TURTLES AND THE WATER WAS QUITE WARM. EVERYONE WAS RIDING MOTOR SCOOTERS THERE. WE LOUNGED AROUND THERE BY THE SEA. ONE DAY WE DROVE TO TULUM A BEAUTIFUL COASTAL PREHISTORIC VILLAGE. THERE WERE PAINTED WALLS AND HUGE PYRAMIDS TO CLIMB. THE WEATHER WAS PERFECT WHEN WE WENT. WE TRAVELED THROUGHOUT THIS SITE IN ORDER TO VIEW SO MANY PYRAMIDS. IT HAS A REFRESHING BREEZE BY THE OCEAN.
ANOTHER SITE WE VISITED HERE WAS CHICHEN ITZA. IT HAS A HUGE OBSERVATORY AND MANY DIFFERENT PYRAMIDS AS WELL. THE NATIVE MEXICANS BUILT THESE BUILDINGS USING VERY CRAFTY SKILLS AND ALIGNED THEIR VILLAGES ACCORDING TO THE CONSTELLATIONS. THEY WERE QUITE INTELLECTUAL ABOUT FINDING OUT INFORMATION FROM THE STARS AND THE HEAVENS. THEY HAD MANY SCULPTURES THERE MADE OUT OF STONE SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THEIR RUINS.
PEOPLE COME TO SEE THESE RUINS FROM ALL DIFFERENT COUNTRIES.
MY HUSBAND AND I TRAVELED BY BUS AND STAYED AT UXMAL IN A NICE HOTEL. IT WAS HERE THAT I HAD A BAD CASE OF DYSENTERY. LUCKILY SOMEONE FROM THE HOTEL GOT ME TO A PHARMACY WHERE THEY GAVE ME A SHOT. THEN I JUST HAD CAMOMILE TEA AND WHITE CRACKERS FOR SEVERAL DAYS. AT UXMAL THERE WERE ARCHAEOLOGISTS WORKING AT THE BASE OF A TALL PYRAMID. THEY HAD MANY IRRIGATION CHANNELS BUILT OF STONE AND WE TRAVELED AROUND SOME OF THEM TO SEE THE SITE. IT WASN'T QUITE AS ELABORATE AS THE OTHERS. OUR HOTEL WAS QUITE BEAUTIFUL HOWEVER. WE SHOULDN'T HAVE DRANK THE WATER AT CHICHEN ITZA. THEY SAID IT WAS OK FROM THE TAP. IT DID NOT AGREE WITH ME!
