WHEN MY SON WAS IN FOURTH GRADE I WENT WITH HIS CLASS TO ANGEL ISLAND. WE CAMPED OVERNIGHT AND IT WAS A HEAVY HIKE FOR THE KIDS TO BRING THEIR SLEEPING BAGS, ETC TO THE OLD FORT THERE. THEY WERE REENACTING THE SOLDIERS WHO LIVED AT CAMP REYNOLDS. THEY WERE GIVEN SPECIAL ACTIVITIES AND SO WERE THE MOMS. LUCKILY IT WAS FAIRLY COOL THERE. THE TEACHERS MADE SURE THAT WE HAD PLENTY OF FOOD AND WATER. ONE NIGHT WE HIKED UP TO A MOUNTAIN WHICH WAS REAL RIGOROUS. AND YOU COULD SEE THE ENTIRE BAY AREA. THE KIDS LEARNED HOW TO USE DIFFERENT TYPES OF UTENSILS FOR COOKING, AND THEY KEPT WATCH AT NIGHT FOR SHIPS COMING TO THE SHORE, JUST LIKE THEY DID IN HISTORIC TIMES. ONE OF THE PARKS PEOPLE FIRED THE CANON THERE!
WE TOURED THE 1863 HISTORIC HOUSE AS WELL. THIS IS WHERE THEY MADE BREAD. OUR FOURTH GRADE CLASS THEN MARCHED BACK TO THE LANDING. WE THEN TOOK OUR CARS TO HEALDSBURG.
