WHEN I BECAME A MOTHER I HAD NO SUPPORT FROM MY FAMILY OR MY NEIGHBORS. IT SEEMED LIKE I WAS SO ISOLATED AND I EASILY FOUND A MOTHER'S CLUB OR TWO. I EVEN TOOK SOME MOTHERING CLASSES AT THE JC AS WELL AS AT A PARENTING SUPPORT NONPROFIT. IT WAS SO DIFFICULT OF A TRANSITION FOR ME AS I ONLY BABYSAT ONE CHILD AT 10 YEARS OLD. I HAD NO IDEA HOW ISOLATING IT WOULD BE FOR ME - SO I WENT TO A CHURCH WHERE THEY HAD A MOM'S GROUP. IN UKIAH THEY HAD A WELL FORMED MOTHER'S GROUP AND I GOT IN TOUCH WITH THEM FROM A MOM I MET AT A SUPPORT GROUP. WE BOTH NEEDED MUCH SUPPORT AS WE HAD BEEN FULL TIME WORKERS BEFORE HAVING BABIES.
WE ALL LEARNED FROM EACH OTHER IN ORDER TO GAIN SUPPORT AND REASON WITH EACH OTHER AS TO WHY WE HAD DECIDED TO BECOME MOMS IN THE FIRST PLACE. INHEALDSBURG I WENT TO ANOTHER FEW CHURCHES TO MEET OTHER MOMS WITH FULL TIME JOBS OF RAISING A FAMILY. IT WAS FUN AFTER WE GOT TO KNOW EACH OTHER. WE EVEN WENT TO JAZZERCISE TOGETHER AND WE GOT OURSELVES UP OUT OF THE HOUSE IN ORDER TO GATHER TOGETHER AND EVEN HAVE PLAY DATES WITH OUR KIDS. IT WAS A BIG TRANSITION GOING FROM A FULL TIME ARCHAEOLOGIST RELATING TO PROFESSIONAL TO WORKING WITH LITTLE KIDS AND BABIES. I JOINED A CLASS WHERE WE MASSAGED OUR BABIES. IT WAS FUN GATHERING IN EACH OTHERS HOMES AND SEEING THEIR TOYS AND HAVING THE BABIES PLAY AND INTERACT -- SORT OF LIKE SMALL CHIMPS!
