WE HAVE TAKEN BIKE TRIPS TO THE BEAR MOUNTAIN ROAD AT POINT REYES THAT LEADS TO THE END OF THE TRAIL OVERLOOKING THE OCEAN. IT IS ONLY A 7 MILE TRAIL. IT IS WELL TRAVELED BY MANY PEOPLE ON FOOT AS WELL AS THOSE WHO RIDE THEIR BIKES.
THE TRAIL IS MOSTLY SHADY BUT IT HAS SOME HILLS SO YOU NEED AN ALL TERRAIN BIKE. YOU CAN FIND ELK ON THIS TRAIL AND IT FOLLOWS BEAR CREEK, A NICE COOL AREA WITH A FEW SMALL DRAINAGES AND MOSTLY REDWOODS.
ONCE YOU GET TO THE OCEAN YOU CAN TAKE A TRAIL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CLIFF AND GO THROUGH A TUNNEL TO REACH THE BEACH. IT IS A FAIRLY RUGGED SURF AT THIS POINT. IT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR SWIMMIMG. THERE IS A GREAT VIEW ON THIS BLUFF. YOU CAN SEE BOATS THAT ARE OUT IN THE OCEAN CATCHING FISH. THE VIEW OF THE OTHER COASTLINE IS NOT VISIBLE FROM HERE.
WE HAVE ALSO GONE TO THE PT. REYES LIGHTHOUSE TRAIL WHICH IS A STEEP TRAIL DOWN 300 SOME STEPS TO A VERY WINDY BLUFF. IT IS A GREAT VIEW ND THE HIGHTHOUSE IS A MUSEUM NOW. IT IS A RUGGED STAR STEP CLIMB UP TO THE PARKING AREA. YOU CAN WAQTCH SEA OTTERS BY THE LIGHTHOUSE AND SEE THE PELICANS FLY BY.
