TUCSON JOURNEYS

WHEN MY BOYFRIEND AND I FIRST MOVED TO PHOENIX WE WENT ON MANY WEEKEND TRIPS. AT SAN XAVIER DEL BAC MISSION WE WATCHED SOME OF THE PIMA AND PAPAGO INDIANS DO SOME DANCING WITH THEIR COSTUMES ON AND WHITE LEATHER MOCCASINS. THEY HAVE SPECTACULAR COSTUMES AND JEWELRY. THE MISSION IS VERY BEAUTIFUL AS WELL. THE CATHOLIC MISSION WAS FOUNDED BY FATHER KINO IN 1692 AND WAS KNOWN AS THE WHITE DOVE OF THE DESERT.

THE FIRST CHURCH WAS BUILT IN 1756 AND WAS THE EARLIEST EUROPEAN STRUCTURE IN ARIZONA. THE PRESENT TWO STORY CHURCH WAS BUILT IN 1783 AND WAS COMPLTED IN 1797. IT WAS NOMINATED TO THE NATIONAL REGISTER IN 1963.

WE ALSO VISITED THE SONORAN DESERT MUSEUM WHICH HAS MANY OF THE DESERT PLANTS IDENTIED AND IT HAS SOME LIUVE ANIMALS AND DESERT TURTLES IN A LITTLE AREA SO YOU CAN SEE THEM CLOSE BY.

OLD TOWN TUCSON IS NEARBY AND IT HAS AN INTERESTING FRONTAGE OF A DOCTORS OFFICE, A TAVERN, A MOTEL AND SEVERAL OFFICES AND A POST OFFICE. YOU CAN WATCH THEM MAKE MOVIES THERE WITH HORSES AND COWBOYS, AND FAKE GUNS.
