SAMUEL P. TAYLOR STATE PARK

THE PARK IS LOCATED JUST NORTH OF LAGUNITAS. THIS ENTIRE STATE PARK OF 6000 ACRES I SURVEYED WITH SEVERAL OTHERS UP AND DOWN THESE HILLS IN MARIN COUNTY. LUCKILY I WORE WHITE PANTS AND I SAW MANY SMALL TICKS ON MY PANTS AND I NEVER GOT BITTEN.

WE FOUND KENNETH REXROTH'S CABIN IN DEVIL'S GULCH. IT WAS IDENTIFIED BY JUST A FEW IRON FRAGMENTS, A TEAPOT, AND A SIGN FROM SAN FRANCISCO. I RESEARCHED HIS LIFE AND HIS FAME AS A NATURE POET. I INTERVIEWED HIS WIFE WHO LIVED IN LAGUNITAS AND SHE SAID HE WAS WORLD FAMOUS. HER INTERVIEW WAS TRANSLATED BY THE PARKS AND BECAME PART OF MY REPORT. HE WENT TO THE SIERRAS WITH A BUDDY OFTEN TO RELAX. HIS POEMS WERE TRANSLATED INTO MANY LANGUAGES. HIS WIFE SAID HE LOVED THE ORIENT. THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN.

I ALSO INTERVIEWED SENOIR FOLKS WHO KNEW ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THIS PARK. THEY SAID IT WAS KNOWN FOR ITS LARGE PAPER MILL COMPANY IN THE MID 1800'S. THEY HAD OVER 15 BUILDINGS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS COMPANY. WE RECORDED THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE TAYLOR'S MAIN HOUSE, THEIR BARN, A PLACE WHERE A WATER WHEEL ONCE WAS, AND THE PAPER MILL FOUNDATION WHERE THERE HAD BEEN MANY BOTTLES AND CANS STOLEN OVER THE YEARS. I ALSO RECORDED SOME OF THE HISTORIC BRIDGES AND CCC MADE CAMPGROUND. THERE ARE MANY TAN OAK TREES THERE AND THE BARK OF THE TAN OAK IS USED TO TAN DEER AND SEA LIONS FUR DURING HISTORIC TIMES.

WE ONLY FOUND ONE PREHISTORIC KNAPPING STATION SITE.
