STRASBURG RAILROAD

THIS RAILROAD AND TRAIN STARTED IN 1832. MY FAMILY(MY 5 YEAR OLD SON, MY BROTHER, AND MOM) STAYED OVERNIGHT IN A CABOOSE CAR HERE IN THE WINTER. IT IS IN AMISH TERRITORY. THEY WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE 18 TO DECIDE TO GET BAPTIZED AND TO DECIDE TO JOIN THE CHURCH. MANY HAVE THERE CHURCH PRAYERS ETC. IN THEIR HOUSE. THEY RESTRICT TECHNOLOGY AND USE CANDLES INSTEAD OF ELECTRICITY. HOWEVER THEIR EXPENSIVE TRAIN MUSEUM IS WELL LIT AND THEY HAVE ABOUT 100 TRAINS IN THERE THAT YOU CAN OBSERVE AND WALK THROUGH. IT IS A FUN PLACE TO SEE THE OLD TRAINS AND HOW THEY WERE BUILT. MY SON THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THEM.

THE AMISH HAND WASH THEIR SIMPLE CLOTHES AND MANY USE A PEDDLE SEWING MACHINE TO MAKE THEIR CLOTHES. THEY HAVE CANDLES LIT IN THEIR WINDOWS AT NIGHT - IT IS A BEAUTIFUL SIGHT. THEY USE A HORSE AND BUGGY AROUND TOWN. THERE ARE ABOUT 16,OOO AMISH IN THIS AREA. LANCASTER IS ANOTHER TOWN WHERE THE AMISH LIVE.
