TRIP TO STATUE OF LIBERTY AND TWIN TRADE CENTER

IN 1975 MY BOYFRIEND AND I WEENT ON A TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY. HE HAD GONE TO SCHOOL AT RUTGERS UNIVERSITY. AS AN ARCHAEOLOGIST I HAD BEEN TO NEW YORK ONLY ONCE BEFORE ON AN ART TOUR. WE VISITED THE STATUE OF LIBERTY AND CLIMBED UP ALL THE STAIRS TO THE TOP WHERE HER HANDS HAVE THE LIGHT. IT IS QUITE AN EXTENSIVE TALL CLIMB OF 300 SOME STAIRS AND A BEAUTIFUL VIEW OF THE OCEAN AND NEW YORK CITY.

WE ALSO TOURED THE TWIN TRADE CENTER WHICH HAS ABOUT 110 STORIES AND WAS AN INCREDIBLE BUILDING WITH VERY EFFICIENT ELEVATORS. ONCE ATTHE TOP IT MAKES YOU FEEL AS IF YOU ARE IN AN AIRPLANE OVER SEEING THE CITY. IT WADS DESTROYED BY IRAQ SUICIDE BOMBERS IN 9/11/2001. AND UNFORTUNATELY OVER 2500 PEOPLE WHO WORKED THERE DIED. IT WAS ONE OF OUR COUNTRIES LARGEST INTERNAL DISASTERS. I REMEMBER SITTING IN FRONT OF OUR TV SEEING THIS ON THE NEWS AND I CALLED MY BROTHER WHO WORKS NEAR BETHESDA. HE SAID THEY WERE OK THERE. I GUESS THEY HAD TO HAVE SPECIAL PRECAUTION FOR THEIR EMPLOYEE BUILDINGS AFTER THAT DAY.

NEW YORK CITY LIKE SAN FRANCISCO ARE MELTING POTS WITH ALL VARIETIES OF ETHNIC FOLKS LIVING THERE. THESE BIG CITIES ARE EXCITING TO VISIT, BUT I CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT TO LIVE IN ANOTHER BIG CITY.

WE ALSO TOURED THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING IN 1975. IT STANDS 1250 FEET HIGH WITH 102 FLOORS FOR BUSINESS OFFICES. BUILT IN 1931 IT WAS THE WORLD'S LARGEST TOURIST ATTRACTION AND MILLIONS OF TOURISTS ARE ATTRACTED TO IT . IT HAS BECOME AN ICON OF 20TH CENTURY MAN'S ATTEMPT TO ACHIEVE THE IMPOSSIBLE.

I REMEMBER VISITING SOME OF OUR FRIEND'S DIGGING IN AN HISTORIC SITE IN DOWNTOWN MANHATTEN. IT WAS A HUGE ONE BLOCK SITE TEST EXCAVATION!
