CARLSBAD CAVERNS AND OTHER NEW MEXICO CAVES

WHEN I WAS YOUNG I TRAVELED TO CARLSBAD CAVERNS AS WELL AS ANOTHER UNDERGROUND DRY CAVE. CARLSBAD HAS 400,000 BRAZILIAN BATS EXIT THE CAVE FOR DINNER. THEY FEED ON INSECTS FOR DINNER AND THEN RETURN. IT HAS MANY ICE AGE ANIMALS BURIED THERE.

I WENT WITH ANOTHER ARCHAEOLOGIST TO ANOTHER NEW MEXICO DRYY CAVE WITH FLASHLIGHTS AND IT WAS A HUGE AREA AT THE ENTRANCE. LUCKILY THE OTHER PERSON HAD KNOWLEDGE OF THIS CAVE. IT WAS ENTIRELY DRY SO WE BROUGHT OUR WATER AND FOOD AND TRAVELED FOR HALF A DAY OR SO. IT WAS QUITE AN ADVENTURE.

WE ALSO TRAVELED TO DO A SURVEY IN THE LINCOLN NATIONAL FOREST IN SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO. WE FOUND PREHISTORIC POTTERY SOME GRINDING STONES, AND PROJECTILE POINTS. WE RECORDED THESE AND COLLECTED SOME FOR THE CHIEF'S MASTER'S THESIS. WE ALSO FOUND AN OLD NAVAJO HUT MADE OF ADOBE WHICH THE MEXICANS USED WHILE TRAVELING NORTH OF THE BORDER.
