SRJC FUTURE OF FOOD MOVIE

LAST NIGHT I WENT TO A MOVIE CALLED THE FUTURE OF FOOD DIRECTED BY DEBORAH GARCIA. YOU CAN RESEARCH THIS MOVIE BY GOING TO THE FUTURE OF FOOD.COM.THE CREW DID RESEARCH THROUGHOUT AMERICA, CANADA AND MEXICO. THEY EXPLAINED THAT LARGE CORPORATIONS SUCH AS MONSATO ARE RULING THE FARMERS AS TO HOW TO SPRAY THEIR CROPS WITH CHEMICALS THAT KILL OF THE INSECTS AND MAKE OUR FOODS LESS DESIRABLE TO TASTE AND AFFECT OUR HEALTH.

IN ABORIGINAL AMERICA THERE WERE 5000 TYPES OF POTATOES AND TODAY IN THE US THERE ARE ONLY ABOUT 4 TYPES! IN THE 1950'S THE GREEN REVOLUTION BEGAN TO ENCOURAGE THE US POPULATION TO CHOOSE ORGANIC FARMING AND PRODUCE. THERE ARE OVER 1.4 BILLION FARMERS IN THE WORLD AND ONLY 20% OF THEM SAVE SEED. THE RESEARCH OF GENETICALLY ENGINEERED WHEAT IS OF MOST IMPORTANCE SINCE SO MANY PEOPLE EAT WHEAT PRODUCTSTHROUGHOUT THE WORLD. EATING GENETICALLY MODIFIED CROPS DECREASES OUT IMMUNE SYSTEM. THEY PRODUCERS ENVISION THAT WE WILL IN THE FUTURE ONLY HAVE 4 CLUSTERS OF SEED COMPANIES. TODAY MOST OF OUR FOOD TRAVELS 1500 MILES TO THE CONSUMER! THAT'S AN INCREDIBLE WASTE OF GAS AND FUEL, AND FRESHNESS IS DECREASED.

ORGANIC FARMERS ARE INCREASING AND MOST CITIES IN MY AREA HAVE ORGANIC FARMERS MARKETS WITH LOCAL FOODS. ORGANIC FOODS ARE ABOUT HAVING A HUMAN RELATIONSHIP TO THE FOOD AND BELIEVING IN A SUSTAINABLE FITURE FOR OUR NEXT GENERATIONS. IN 1990 ORGANIC FARMS WERE BELIEVED TO PROTECT THE HEALTH OF EVERYONE INVOLVED. IN SOUTH DAKOTA AND NEBRASKA WHERE THEY GROW LARGE AMOUNTS OF SOYBEANS AND WHEAT THE FOARMERS ARE RALLYING AGAINST GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS.

AFTER TAKING HIS CASE TO THE SUPREME COURT SO THAT HIS LARGE FARM IN CANADA COULD STILL USE NON GENETICALLY MODIFIED SEEDS, PERCY SCHMEISNER AND HIS WIFE WON THEIR CASE AGAINST MONSANTO AS DID A FARMER IN THE DAKOTAS. IT TOOK MANY YEARS HOWEVER.

IN ADDITION TO THE GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISM SEEDS IS THE PROBLEM OF LABELING OF FOODS IN CANS, BOXES, AND GLASS IN THE SUPERMARKETS. DR. CHRIS WEGE IS PRESIDENT OF THE TRUTH IN LABELING COALITION SO THAT PEOPLE KNOW WHAT IS IN THEIR FOOD AND IF IT HAS ANY GENETICALLY MODIFIED SUBSTANCES.
